ISU exceeds goal for United Way campaign

Iowa State University employees pledged more than $295,000 to the United Way of Story County's 2008 campaign, exceeding the university's goal by nearly 3 percent.

"With our faculty and staff's generous support, Iowa State once again has shown how much it cares for the community and for improving the lives of families and individuals in Story County," said Wendy Wintersteen, dean of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and chair of the ISU portion of the United Way campaign.

As of Dec. 8, ISU employees had pledged $295,325. The university's goal was $287,000. University leaders will make a presentation on the final campaign total to local United Way representatives during halftime of the ISU-Minnesota women's basketball game on Dec. 21.

The Story County campaign raised $1,562,724, also exceeding its goal.

"We thank everyone who pledged or made a leadership gift in the campaign. With each pledge, Iowa State helps make a difference in the life of a neighbor, friend or person in need in our county," said Jack Payne, vice president for extension and outreach and leadership chairperson for ISU's United Way campaign.
