Oct. 10, 2008 Early events jump-start Homecomingby Paula Van Brocklin Homecoming 2008, "Livin' the Dream," officially is Oct. 24-25, but several events are taking place ahead of the big weekend, beginning with Saturday's Blue Sky Day 5K Run/Walk. The 13th annual event raises funds for Lutheran Services in Iowa, which provides programs and services to thousands of children and families in Iowa. The race starts at 10:30 a.m. on central campus, rain or shine. A pancake feed also is part of this year's event. Speaking of food, don't miss Food on Campus Oct. 20 through Oct. 24 (11 a.m.-1:30 p.m., central campus). Cost is a $5 button, available the week before homecoming at the student booth on the first floor of the Memorial Union or on central campus during the meals. And what would homecoming be without painted streets and storefronts? Students will get their creative juices flowing Oct. 19, as they paint Victory Lane (in the Iowa State Center commuter parking lot) and several campustown storefronts. The annual Honors and Awards Ceremony sponsored by the alumni association is Oct. 24 (1:30 p.m., Benton Auditorium, Scheman). Several faculty and staff members will be honored for their achievements. See the insert in the printed issue of this Inside or go online for a complete list of award winners. Additional highlights leading up to the Oct. 25 gridiron matchup between Iowa State and Texas A&M are below. A complete list is online.
