Honors

State Historical Society appointment

Jason Follett, program coordinator in the curriculum and instruction department and university teacher education program, was reappointed to the State Historical Society of Iowa board of trustees by Gov. Chet Culver.

President-elect of NATS

Donald Simonson, professor of music, was installed as president-elect of the National Association of Teachers of Singing. He will serve as president-elect until 2010 when he becomes president of the association.

Biotechnology Council names new members

Bill Beavis, professor of agronomy; Richard Martin, professor of biomedical sciences; Matthew Rowling, assistant professor of food science and human nutrition; and Jacqueline Shanks, professor of chemical and biological engineering, have been selected to serve three-year terms on Iowa State's Biotechnology Council. The council makes recommendations to the Office of Biotechnology on program activities supporting biotechnology research, education and outreach.

Fifth straight honor for Piscitello

ISU treasurer Joan Piscitello has been named to the Association for Financial Professionals' Honors Program for the fifth straight year. The honor recognizes professionals who have reached the top of their fields of treasury and corporate finance.

ASM International fellow

Mufit Akinc, professor of materials science and engineering, was elected a fellow of ASM International. The society for materials scientists and engineers honored Akinc for his contributions in ceramics and alloy powders, as well as his leadership in materials education.
