Timeline revised for utility project in NW campus

The timeline for a utility project that precedes construction of the new chemistry facility on Pammel Drive has changed in recent weeks.

Included in the Hach Hall budget is $4.7 million to build a new underground utility corridor (steam, chilled water, domestic water, natural gas) for the building site. The new corridor will run beneath parking lot 23 and tie into utilities that run along the south side of Osborn Drive and the north side of Pammel Drive.

Parking lot 23, which lies between Davidson Hall and the armory, closed the last week of May and won't reopen until June 2010.

A short section of Pammel Drive adjacent to the Communications and Molecular Biology buildings is scheduled to close Monday, June 16, and remain closed through Aug. 10. Drivers are reminded that the Osborn Drive gates are raised during the summer months, making that street an alternate east-west route through campus.

The utility work then will move to the south end of the site, requiring the temporary closing of Osborn Drive, near the east end of Coover Hall, from approximately Aug. 18 to Oct. 14.

Other work that needs to precede any new construction includes the demolition of Industrial Education I and the Ag Engineering Shed. The contract for that work will be awarded in early June and demolition will begin in July.
