Confidential hotline reminder

Iowa State contracts with a third-party vendor, EthicsPoint, to provide the ISU Confidential Hotline (online and by phone). The hotline allows anonymous reporting of activities that may involve criminal, unethical or otherwise inappropriate behavior impacting ISU. After you submit a report, you are urged to go to the hotline Web site, sign on with a special ID and password, and check for follow-up questions posed by investigators. You may submit anonymous reports online at ISU Confidential Hotline, or by calling (toll-free) 866-384-4277.

Book a clinical trial

Researchers who are considering conducting human clinical trials at the Nutrition and Wellness Research Center can contact interim associate director D. Lee Alekel, 4-3552. The center offers convenient parking and a fitness and metabolism unit for studies of human subjects, as well as space, equipment and support for data collection and lab analyses.

Yager appointed to honors post

Susan Yager, associate professor of English and associate director of the Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching, has been named faculty director of the University Honors Program, effective July 1. The appointment is half-time for three years. Yager will work with administrative director Laurie Fiegel, who oversees the day-to-day management of the honors program. The program also has two assistant directors: Laura Merrick, who oversees research and scholarship; and Jamie Beyer, who has responsibility for the Freshman Honors Program. Yager succeeds Gene Takle, who has served in the faculty post since January 2006.

Lunch and learn

As part of Osteoporosis Awareness and Prevention month, staff at the Nutrition Clinic for Employee Awareness will discuss "Building Strong Bones for Life" during a lunch-and-learn May 29 (noon-1 p.m., 0331 Palmer). RSVP to 4-9625 or barclay@iastate.edu.

Open house

ISU's microscopy and nanoimaging facility will hold an open house May 29 (2-4 p.m., room 3 Bessey Hall). In addition to renovations, the facility boasts a new $795,000 scanning transmission electron microscope. More information is available online.

Summer orientation opens May 30

An estimated 4,000 freshmen and 300 transfer students will visit campus May 30 to June 27, accompanied by approximately 6,000 family members. During their two-day stay, students will register for classes, take placement assessments, obtain ISU cards and e-mail accounts, and attend sessions about their transition to campus as well as educational sessions about their colleges and departments. Those spending a night on campus will stay in Martin Hall. Visitors will park in the Memorial Union ramp and lots 7, 59A and 60.
