Support child care for students

A display featuring a goose and little Cys is making the rounds of campus offices as part of a fund-raiser to help ISU students afford quality child care. Watch for the display or send donations to Julia Graden, 100 University Village, ISU Family Resource Center. More info.

Recycling volunteers sought for Dec. 8

Campus volunteers, spearheaded by students in the U.S. Navy ROTC program, will collect old phonebooks from campus buildings Saturday morning, Dec. 8. To join the team, contact Norm Hill, Central Stores, 4-5752.

Volunteers needed for science bowl

Student teams from around the state will compete in the annual Ames Lab/ISU High School Science Bowl Saturday, Jan. 26. Approximately 90 volunteers, both scientific and nonscientific, are needed to serve as moderators, judges, timekeepers and scorekeepers. To volunteer, contact Breehan Gerleman Lucchesi, 4-9750, breehan@ameslab.gov.

Giving Tree active through Nov. 30

Faculty Senate and the Ames-ISU YMCA are hosting the 8th annual "Giving Tree" through Nov. 30 to support more than 70 children (grades 1-5). Ames school counselors have identified children from families in transition. The children's "wishes" are hung on the Giving Tree in the Faculty Senate office, 103 Lab of Mechanics. To participate:

  • Select a tag off the tree
  • Return the unwrapped item(s) to the Faculty Senate Office by Nov. 30.

Cash donations also are accepted. Make checks payable to the Ames-ISU YMCA (write "CONNECT" on the memo line). Receipts are available. For more information, contact Sherri, 4-9717, or Jenni, 4-2263.

Forestry Club to sell trees

The ISU Forestry Club will sell freshly cut Christmas trees and wreaths at Reiman Gardens on Nov. 24-25, Nov. 30, Dec. 1-2 and Dec. 7-9. The trees will be sold from the maintenance shed in the gardens' parking lot. Trees will include Balsam Fir, White Pine and Scotch Pine.

Sale hours are:

  • Fridays: 3-6 p.m. (3-8 p.m. Nov. 30)
  • Saturdays: 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
  • Sundays: 12-6 p.m.
