Study Abroad Fair is Sept. 13

The Study Abroad Center will sponsor its annual Study Abroad Fair from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13, in the Memorial Union Sun Room. It will feature information on study, work and travel abroad opportunities from more than 50 programs offered by ISU, ISU affiliates and other-third party providers.

Career conference for girls

The Program for Women in Science and Engineering announced the October dates for its "Taking the Road Less Traveled" career conferences for middle and high school girls: Oct. 11 (9-12 graders) and Oct. 18 or 25 (6-9 graders). Office supply show is Sept. 12

ISU Central Stores and Office Max will co-sponsor an office supply show from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12, in the Molecular Biology atrium. Vendors will display their products and Office Max will promote its online ordering system. ISU Printing and TechCyte also will participate. There will be door prizes, give-aways and refreshments.

Sitter list available now

The Ames-ISU YWCA is updating the Sitter List for Parents for fall. The list contains contact information for ISU women willing to watch children, and is updated three times a year. The list is free for ISU students; all others pay $2. It's available in 210 Lab of Mechanics, Monday-Friday 9 a.m.- 4 p.m. (Wednesdays 10 a.m.-3 p.m.). For more information, call 4-1663.

NCAA information session for academic advisers

ISU Athletics' compliance and academic services departments will host an NCAA educational session and "meet and greet" for all ISU academic advisers from 8 to 9 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18, in room 60, Hixson-Lied Center. Bagels, donuts, coffee and juice will be served. An optional tour of Hixson-Lied will begin at 9:05 a.m.

Grand opening in the MU food court

The Memorial Union food court will hold a grand re-opening celebration Sept. 10-14, following a summer of renovation. The new food venues are World Bistro (made-to-order entrees) and Cys and Fries. There will be dollar-off specials throughout the week and a drawing for a $200 Best Buy gift card. A punch card also will be available that offers customers a chance to purchase an entr)e at each venue Sept. 10-21 and receive $5 off their next purchase.

New face on comedy opener

Aasif Mandvi, Baghdad bureau chief on the Daily Show with Jon Stewart, will perform Sept. 28 at Stephens Auditorium. Doors open at 7 p.m., the show starts at 8 p.m. Admission is free. This replaces a scheduled performance by Daily Show colleague John Oliver.

Learn about sustainability

The ISU Council on Sustainability invites faculty, staff, students and community members to its fall meeting from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13, at Reiman Gardens (Hughes Auditorium). Learn about the council and local efforts such as the gardens' BioWalk Tour and sustainable rose garden design, the ISU energy plan and more. For more information, contact Colleen Rogers, 4-7272.

Nominations sought for King awards

Nominations for the Martin Luther King Jr. "Advancing One Community" Awards are due in the provost office by Nov. 14. Three $500 awards are available in the categories of individual, student and group. Details are online.
