Third annual "Sample the Arts" is Sunday

A celebratory kick-off of the performing arts season in Ames will be held from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 26, at Stephens.

The third annual "Sample the Arts" will feature nearly 30 local performing and creative arts organizations that will promote upcoming events or offer live performances during the afternoon. Guests also can take a backstage tour of Stephens.

"The event offers the public a taste of the wonderful entertainment opportunities headed their way this season," said Angela Ossian, marketing director at the Iowa State Center.

There will be ticket giveaways and a special appearance by Kim Brown (Arthur writer/illustrator Marc Brown's sister and the inspiration for his character D.W.) beginning at 3:30 p.m. Attendees can win tickets to performances at Stephens, such as Evita and Hairspray. Other door prizes include tickets to The Rose Ensemble (chamber music), an Octagon Center for the Arts family membership, Ames Chamber Artist event tickets and T-shirts.

Free activities for all ages are planned. Coca-Cola and Wells Blue Bunny will provide free beverages and ice cream.

Sample the Arts is free and open to the public. It is hosted by the Iowa State Center and the Ames Community Arts Council.
