IBM Faculty AwardMark Gordon, Distinguished Professor of liberal arts and sciences and holder of the Frances M. Craig Chair in chemistry, received the 2007 IBM Faculty Award for his work on perfecting quantum chemistry software models to run on IBM's Blue Gene supercomputers. Award for ExcellenceLarry Pedigo, emeritus University Professor of entomology, received the Entomological Foundation's Award for Excellence in Integrated Pest Management. Volunteers of the YearMary Meier and Shannon Peel were named the Iowa Special Olympics Volunteers of the Year for their work organizing the health care coverage for the annual event. Meier is director of ISU's athletic training education program and Peel is assistant director of athletic training. McNabb keynotes Carver eventEmeritus University Professor Harold "Sande" McNabb was the keynote speaker at the commemoration of the Carver Discovery Center at the George Washington Carver National Monument in July. Award of ExcellencePaul Coates, director of ISU Extension's Office of State and Local Government Programs, has received the 2007 Institute Director Award of Excellence from the International Institute of Municipal Clerks. Coates, director of the Iowa Municipal Clerks Institute since 1999, also has presented at the annual Iowa Municipal Clerks Academy for nearly 30 years. Dairy leadership awardDale Thoreson, ISU Extension dairy, beef and forage specialist, earned the Ralph Keeling Leadership Award from the Iowa State Dairy Association. |
9th Annual Learning Communities Institute AwardsThe Learning Communities Awards Committee honored the following individuals for their extraordinary contributions to learning communities at ISU: Doug Beck (outstanding innovations); LeQuetia Ancar, Steve Mikelson and Tom Brumm (scholarship); Judi Eyles and Ebby Luvaga (champion); Department of Residence (partner); Andrea Dinkelman (collaborator); and Katherine Lyons (outstanding service). |
