President Gregory Geoffroy will join U.S. Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings and seven other college and university presidents on a visit to Latin America to tout the importance of higher education partnerships and exchanges among nations.

Spellings will lead the delegation to Chile and Brazil, where it will promote the value of U.S. higher education and discuss future international collaborations. Delegates will meet with students and leaders in higher education, the business community, media and government officials during the Aug. 18-24 visit.

"I am excited to travel to Chile and Brazil and explore ways to strengthen the ongoing bond between the United States and these countries through educational partnerships and two-way exchanges," Spellings said.

Geoffroy was selected to be part of the group that includes university leaders from the University of Maryland, Stanford University, University of Nebraska, Louisiana State University, Miami Dade College, Washington University in St. Louis and University of California.

"I'm honored to be a member of this delegation, to provide more awareness of higher education opportunities in the U.S. and encourage stronger ties with our universities," Geoffroy said. "International students have always been an important part of the Iowa State family, and I'm looking forward to sharing our story during this visit to Brazil and Chile.

"The leadership of Secretary Spellings in working to strengthen our international relationships is invaluable to colleges and universities in the U.S."
