Andresen receives Meritorious Service AwardMike Andresen, ISU Athletics turf manager, was named the 2007 Iowa Turfgrass Institute Meritorious Service Award recipient. Andresen was selected for his leadership and vision in serving the ITI. Minner earns distinguished service awardDavid Minner, professor of horticulture, earned the distinguished service award from the Iowa Golf Course Superintendents Association. Minner was honored for his extension work and research. Hall of Fame memberSteve Hoff, professor of agricultural and biosystems engineering, was inducted into the Rural Builders Hall of Fame by the National Frame Builders Association. Hoff was recognized for impacting the building industry by educating students and assisting builders with siting for new construction. Distance education contributionsWarren Madden, vice president for business and finance, received the inaugural Friend of the Great Plains IDEA Award from the Great Plains Interactive Distance Education Alliance (IDEA). Madden is credited with developing a budget model for the alliance that allows a common tuition rate for all students regardless of their enrolling institution. Including Iowa State, 11 universities in 11 states make up the regional alliance. Regional VPCarol Petersen, assistant director for ISU Dining, was elected to a two-year term as vice president for the Midwest region of the National Association of College and University Food Services. There are 140 schools in the region. American BandmasterMichael Golemo, director of bands and music department chair, was elected to the American Bandmasters Association. The membership recognizes outstanding achievement in the field of concert band. Service awardWendy Wintersteen, dean of the College of Agriculture, received the outstanding service award from the Midwest Poultry Consortium, which provides support and resources for poultry education and research in 14 states. Technical leadership, fellowshipWilliam Meeker, Distinguished Professor of Liberal Arts and Sciences and professor of statistics, received the Shewhart Medal from the American Society for Quality. The award recognizes technical leadership in modern quality control. Meeker also was named a fellow of the society. |
