Honors

Performance excellence award

ISU's Facilities Planning and Management received an Iowa Recognition for Performance Excellence Award (silver achievement level) for the second year. The awards, selected by an executive council of IRPE, the governor's office and the Iowa Quality Center, recognize businesses for reviews of their leadership, planning, customer focus, and business results. The process is aligned with the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award.

Bundy earns achievement award

Rich Bundy, first assistant vice president for development at the ISU Foundation, earned a professional achievement award from the National Agricultural Alumni and Development Association Inc. Recipients are recognized for career accomplishments, leadership in professional and community organizations, and other honors.

Moore voted ASA president-elect

Kenneth Moore, agronomy professor, was voted 2006-07 president-elect of the American Society of Agronomy. Moore is director of the master of science in agronomy distance education program, as well as ISU's Crop Adviser Institute.

Master pork producers

John Mabry, director of the Iowa Pork Industry Center, and John Thomson, dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine, were named honorary Master Pork Producers by the Iowa Pork Producers Association. The award recognizes service to the betterment and success of Iowa's pork industry.

Achievement award

William LaGrange, emeritus professor of food science and human nutrition, was honored with the Honorary Life Award from the International Association for Food Protection.

Johnson to receive honorary degree

Larry Johnson, director of the Center for Crops Utilization Research, will receive an honorary title of "Doctor Honoris Causa" from the faculty of Bioscience Engineering at Ghent University in Belgium.

Cormicle named AGC Educator of the Year

Larry Cormicle, senior lecturer for civil, construction and environmental engineering, has received the 2007 Associated General Contractors Education and Research Foundation's Outstanding Educator Award.

National association president

Mike Andresen, ISU athletics turf manager, was elected to a two-year term as president of the Sports Turf Managers Association. The group's members manage sports fields at schools, universities, recreational facilities and professional sports stadiums.

Gschneidner to National Academy of Engineering

ISU Distinguished Professor Karl A. Gschneidner Jr. has been elected to the National Academy of Engineering. The materials science professor and senior scientist at the U.S. Department of Energy's Ames Laboratory was cited for contributions to the science and technology of rare-earth materials. He is among 64 members and 9 foreign associates elected to the academy this year.
