April 27, 2007 Volunteer for Iowa Special Olympics May 17-19
Volunteers are sought to help with the Iowa Special Olympics summer games, which will be held on campus May 17-19. Volunteers will work half-day shifts, performing such services as fielding softballs, working other sport venues, congratulating participants and escorting them to award areas. To volunteer, contact the Ames Convention and Visitors Bureau at 232-4032. The games are expected to draw 3,000 Special Olympians and their families to campus. Opening ceremonies will begin at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 17, at Hilton. ParkingTo accommodate the games, Beach Road will be closed to through traffic from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday and Friday. The Iowa State Center parking lots, Center Drive and South Fourth Street will be closed on Thursday for cycling events. Commuter parking will be allowed in stadium lots S2 through S8. Several parking lots will be affected on Friday. They are: Lot 3 (between Beyer and Howe halls): Closed except for those with handicap or 24-hour reserve permits Lot 50A (by Forker): Closed except for those with handicap permits Lot 57 (west side of Lied): Closed except for those with reserve, handicap or Special Olympics permits for this lot Lot 100 (south side of Lied): Closed except for those with Special Olympics permits for this lot |
