Good memories of Stephens?

The Iowa State Center is collecting guests' unforgettable experiences while attending events at Stephens for use in future materials. Presidential lecture in chemistry is May 15

The second annual Presidential Lecture in Chemistry will begin at 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 15, in 1148 Gerdin (auditorium). Nathan Lewis, professor of chemistry at California Institute of Technology, Pasadena, will speak on "Scientific Challenges in Sustainable Energy Technology." A reception will begin at 7:30 p.m. The Presidential Lectureship Series in Chemistry is organized by the chemistry department and funded by an anonymous donor via the President's Office.

Volunteers wanted

The Iowa 4-H Center will hold its annual spring cleanup day April 28 (9 a.m.-3 p.m., center is west of Madrid), rain or shine. Partial-day or all-day help, both adults and children, are welcome. Volunteers receive continental breakfast at 9 a.m. and a hot lunch at noon. To volunteer, call the camp office, 515-795-3338.

ADVANCE retreat is May 10

ISU ADVANCE, dedicated to increasing participation and advancement of women in science, technology, engineering and math academic careers, will host a half-day retreat, "First Steps Toward Institutional Transformation," Thursday, May 10 (9 a.m.-1 p.m.), in the Scheman Building. Faculty, staff and students are welcome. Lunch is provided. Participants are asked to register by May 1 by contacting Susan Masters, 4-6151. HeartReach lab back on campus

The HeartReach mobile lab returns to campus Tuesday, May 1 (7:10 a.m.-1:30 p.m., Lot 12, Communications). ISU employees can schedule preventative health screening packages ranging from $20 to $100. Employee death: Bob Terpstra

Bob Terpstra, an assistant scientist at Ames Lab working in powder metallurgy, died April 12. He was 53. The Terpstra family prefers memorials to the Bob Terpstra Trust, to support senior high fellowship mission trips, at Collegiate Presbyterian Church, Ames.

Last newspaper of the semester

Inside Iowa State will move to its summer schedule on May 17, publishing online-only issues every three weeks. The newsprint edition will return the first week of fall classes in August.
