Talk topic: Veishea, ISU's 150th

Veishea co-chairs and a representative of the planning committee for ISU's 150th celebration will join President Gregory Geoffroy on the April 17 installment of Talk of Iowa to discuss the April kickoff of the two events. The live, Iowa Public Radio show airs from 11 a.m. to noon locally on AM 640. Questions can be mailed in advance to talk@iastate.edu.

Easter spring fling is March 31 at gardens

Reiman Gardens' annual Spring Fling for children is from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, March 31. Enjoy crafts, see flowers and butterflies, pet live rabbits, visit the Easter Bunny and hunt for eggs. All children receive free admission; adults pay $5. The egg hunt for children through age 5 years begins at 11:15 a.m.; for children 6 to 10 years at 11:45 a.m. Registration for the hunt is encouraged; call 4-2710.

New Wiggles date is Nov. 2

Due to inclement weather, The Wiggles preschool band postponed its March 1 performance at Hilton. The show will be made up on Nov. 2 at 6:30 p.m. Tickets purchased for the March 1 performance will be honored at the Nov. 2 show. Any questions regarding ticketing should be directed to the Iowa State Center box office at 4-2479.

Iowa Women's Leadership Summit is April 27

Deborah Kolb, author and expert in negotiations and conflict management, will be the keynote speaker at the annual Iowa Women's Leadership Summit Friday, April 27, in the Scheman Building. The all-day summit is open to students, faculty and staff at educational institutions and others interested in leadership roles in politics, business, non-profit and community organizations. Bessey Lecture is April 4

The 2007 Charles E. Bessey Lecture will begin at 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 4, in the Kildee auditorium. Doug Soltis, professor of botany at the University of Florida, will speak on "Darwin's Abominable Mystery: Genetic and Genomic Insights into Angiosperm Evolution."

Inventory time at bookstore

The Iowa State University Book Store announces several closures due to inventory. Reiman Gardens Gift Shop will be closed until noon on Friday, March 30. The main store in the Memorial Union will be closed Saturday, March 31.

Reception for student employees

ISU students who work on or off campus are invited to an open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, on the ground floor of Beardshear. The event is in observance of National Student Employment Week. It especially honors Kristin Menning, ISU's student employee of the year; and Jenna Jones and Melissa Nasers, student employees of distinction. Food and beverages will be available and door prizes awarded.

Learning Community Awards

Nominations for the 2006-07 Learning Community Awards will be accepted through April 6. Information about the awards and nomination process is online. Awards will be presented at the Learning Communities Institute on May 7.

P&S CYtation nominations sought

April 2 is the next nomination deadline for the P&S CYtation Awards, which recognize individuals who have performed beyond the call of duty, done something extraordinarily well, or acted in such a way as to make a real difference at the university. Nominees must be P&S employees. The nomination needs to be for work done within the past year. Winners receive a one-year family membership to Reiman Gardens. More information is online.

Outdoor equipment sale is April 9

The ISU Outdoor Recreation Program will hold an equipment sale from 6 to 7:30 p.m. April 9 at the Lied Recreation Center. Items for sale include canoes, one sailboat and trailer, canoe paddles, life jackets, 2-person and 3-person tents, sleeping bags, backpacks, Duluth packs, coolers (liquid), rock climbing shoes, ski carry bags, headlamps and car top carriers. Canoes and the sailboat and trailer will be sold on a closed bid system; all other items sold on a first-come basis. Contact ORP, 4-8200, with questions.

Appointment

Loreto Prieto, professor of counseling psychology at the University of Akron, to director of the U.S. Latino/a Studies Program in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and professor of psychology, effective Aug. 16.

Correction: Morrill Hall dedication is April 20

The last edition of Inside listed an incorrect date for the rededication of Morrill Hall. The dedication ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. Friday, April 20, on central campus, just across the street from Morrill. Building tours will follow the program.
