Dance marathon raises record funds

Iowa State students raised nearly $161,000 for a children's hospital during a 15-hour dance marathon at the Memorial Union Jan. 20. The funds will go to the Children's Hospital of Iowa at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics through the Children's Miracle Network.

Brown Quartet concert canceled

The Alison Brown Quartet concert scheduled for Feb. 18 at Stephens has been canceled. Ticket refunds are available where they were purchased. For more information, call 4-3347.

Thai Night is Feb. 11; buy tickets in advance

The ISU Student Thai Association will host a Thai Night dinner and performance Feb. 11 (5-8 p.m., MU Great Hall). A reception with tea, appetizers and displays begins at 5 p.m., buffet dinner at 6 p.m. and cultural performance at 7 p.m. Tickets are $13 ($9 children under 10 years) and must be purchased in advance from a student member. Lunch and Learn for family caregivers Feb. 28

ISU Extension family life specialist Beth Fleming and Greenlee School students will host a Lunch and Learn for family caregivers from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 28, in 3534 Memorial Union. The program is open to faculty, staff and friends of the ISU community. Family caregivers are adults caring for a loved one with a chronic illness or disability. More information is online.

P&S nominations due Feb. 16

Nominations for representatives to fill P&S Council's 17 open seats are due Feb. 16. Forms are available online.

New MU parking system delayed several weeks

A delay in installation of signage that will assist users with the new parking pay system in the MU ramp has set back implementation of the system. MU officials expect to begin using the new system the week of Feb. 26.

Poster sale at MU next week

An annual art and print poster sale will be held Feb. 12-16 in the MU Cardinal Room. Hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. Most posters are priced between $8 and $12. Proceeds support MU art programs.

Homemade Valentines this year?

The Workspace (ground floor, Memorial Union) will host Valentine's Day card making Feb. 11-14. Hours are 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday and 2 to 10 p.m. Monday through Wednesday. Drop in and pay $5 for unlimited card making. Call 4-0970 or e-mail letitia@iastate.edu for more information.

Character Counts awards March 22

A "Character Counts! In Ames" awards recognition event will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, March 22, in the Knapp-Storms dining complex. Nominations are accepted through Feb. 15 for more than a dozen awards that recognize individuals and organizations for their efforts in 2006. More information and the nomination form are online.

Farmers Market now indoors Wednesday and Saturday at gardens

In addition to Wednesday mornings, the Ames Downtown Farmers Market will operate at Reiman Gardens (indoors) every Saturday morning in February and March from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Items for sale include apples, honey, squash, free-range poultry, frozen garden vegetables, popcorn, handcrafted products and baked goods. Farmers Market is free. Visitors to the butterfly wing and conservatory pay winter admission rates (free for children, $5 for adults).

Open forum on Ag name

An open forum to discuss the College of Agriculture's proposed name change is Wednesday, Feb. 14, from noon to 2 p.m. in the MU Pioneer Room.

Social entrepreneurship

Arthur Brooks, Syracuse University, will give a lecture, "Giving in an Entrepreneurial Culture," from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, in the MU Sun Room.

Later that day, Brooks will join Michael Morris, also of Syracuse University, for a seminar, "What is Social Entrepreneurship?" from 2 to 3:30 p.m. in 0331 Palmer. RSVP to Sandra Stewart, sandras@iastate.edu, by Feb. 9 to participate in this faculty seminar.
