Nov. 3, 2006 ISU-loving, blue-ribbon-seeking quilters: Here's a contest for youTwo quilting contests at the 2007 Iowa State Fair will commemorate Iowa State University's 150th birthday. A special quilt category has been created to honor Iowa State's sesquicentennial, and the first-prize award, fittingly, is $150. Another contest that is open to Iowa residents and Iowa State alumni outside the state is the ISU sesquicentennial quilt block contest. Contestants in the quilt block contest will receive a packet of materials in early summer. Blocks will be used to construct the Iowa State University Sesquicentennial Quilt, which will be on display throughout the state fair and sold at a fair auction Aug. 18.
