Budget model deadline reset for Oct. 31

by Anne Krapfl

A decision on whether to continue to pursue a new budget model for the university will wait a few more weeks. President Gregory Geoffroy has approved the Budget Model Review and Implementation Committee's request for an extension on its current work to Oct. 31. After receiving the committee's report, Geoffroy will make a decision on whether to move ahead on a final review phase.

Under the former timeline, the committee would have completed by Oct. 13 a report that summarizes more than three months of comment and discussion on campus about the proposed model. The 16-member committee met early this week and agreed it would like more time to study some ideas and hone its report.

"This extension is important because it will enable the committee to provide a better developed and more detailed report," said Doug Epperson, chair of the committee.

When he receives the report, Geoffroy's options will be to:

  • Ask the Budget Model Review and Implementation Committee to further refine the proposed model or its implementation plan.
  • Reject the proposed model or its implementation plan.
  • Submit the proposed model (as outlined in the committee's October report) to the Faculty Senate, other campus groups and administrative leaders for their formal recommendations and advice.

Summary
