Nominations sought for equality award

by Anne Krapfl

The Office of the Provost seeks nominations for Iowa State's second annual "Advancing One Community" award, to be given at the campus Martin Luther King Jr. celebration on Jan. 18, 2007. One individual (faculty or staff), one group and one student each will receive recognition, which includes a $500 stipend.

Nominees should have demonstrated their commitment to the principles and goals of King over a sustained period of time. Specifically, they will have pursued nonviolent actions to:

  • Create an inclusive, multicultural community, or
  • Bring about systematic change aimed at reducing injustice and inequity at Iowa State.

Nominations should include a nomination letter (three pages or less), current résumé or vita of the nominee (for the group award, a brief description of the organization or group), and two to five letters of support. Nominations are due in the provost office by Nov. 28.

Nominations will be reviewed by a committee of students, staff and faculty appointed by the Martin Luther King Jr. celebration committee.

For more information, see "news and announcements" on the provost office Web site (www.provost.iastate.edu).
