P&S Council forum focuses on award nominations

Join the P&S Council awards committee for a noon open forum Friday, Nov. 3, in the Memorial Union Gallery. "Awards 101: Solving the Mystery" will cover the ins and outs of preparing a good award application. Hear how other departments solicit nominations for and prepare their awards. Committee members will share what they look for as they evaluate P&S awards.

Ag career day

ISU's annual Agricultural Career Day will bring 154 companies to campus to recruit students for jobs and internships. The Oct. 24 fair is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the MU Great Hall and Campanile and Regency rooms. To see a list of participating companies, go to Ag Career Day site

Webcast on sustainability

As part of a national observance of Campus Sustainability Day at colleges and universities, Iowa State will participate in a Webcast, "Where is Your Campus on the Continuum of Integrated Sustainability Planning,"from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 25, in the Memorial Union Cardinal Room. Pre-registration is not needed.

Eat well, help students

Students in Iowa State's fine dining management class will host three more special dinners this semester in the MacKay Hall Tearoom. They are:

  • Oct. 25, Autumn Harvest (locally grown produce, $35);
  • Nov. 8, Hiraku (southeast Asia foods, $40);
  • Nov. 29, A French Experience ($40).

The dinners start at 6 or 7 p.m. and include wine pairings with several of the courses. Reservations are required. See more information.

Apple sale

The horticulture club will hold its annual apple sale Oct. 20-29. The apples, picked at the hort farm north of Ames and sorted by size, will be sold in 5-pound ($6.25) and 10-pound ($12.50) bags.

Varieties include Jonathan, golden Delicious, red Delicious and Chieftain. Apples will be available at:

  • Beardshear Hall (Oct. 27, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.)
  • Curtiss Hall (Oct. 20, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.) and
  • Reiman Gardens (Oct. 22 and 29, 12-7 p.m.; Oct. 28, 9 a.m.-7 p.m.).
