Sept. 8, 2006 Dean of students finalists visitTwo candidates for the position of ISU dean of students visited campus in the last week. They are Maria Flores-Mills, assistant dean of undergraduate students at Princeton University, New Jersey; and Dione Somerville, director of enrollment services/registrar at Lorain County Community College, Elyria, Ohio. Before accepting the post at Princeton, Flores-Mills served as director of judicial affairs and special projects/Posse III mentor, judicial coordinator/Posse III mentor, and assistant director of multicultural affairs, all at DePauw University, Greencastle, Ind. Previously, she was the community outreach/Latino affairs coordinator in the provost's office at the University of Iowa. Prior to her current position, Somerville served as director of student affairs and services at Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine, Cleveland; and as director of student activities and assistant director of campus programming at Ursuline College, Pepper Pike, Ohio. The candidates' resumes are online at the student affairs Web site (http://www.iastate.edu/~saff). Former dean of students Pete Englin became director of the residence department in July 2005. Interim dean of students Sharon McGuire left Iowa State this week for a post at Boise State University. Assistant to the vice president for student affairs Mimi Benjamin becomes interim dean of students on Sept. 8.
