Aug. 10, 2006 Public reception marks Brunnier exhibit openingAnne Krapfl An opening reception for the Brunnier Art Museum exhibition OBSESSED: Images of Weather, will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, August 21. There will be appetizers, live music and an opportunity to visit with the artists. A brief program will begin at 5:45 p.m. The reception is free and open to the public. Obsessed: Weather in Art opens Aug. 22 and runs through March 18, 2007. The exhibition features the works of five regional artists -- Williams Barnes, Gary Bowling, Keith Jacobshagen, Bobbie McKibbin, John Preston and Ellen Wagener -- whose work explores the sky. They were partnered with ISU atmospheric scientists with whom they shared weather concepts, imagery and philosophies. Other pieces in the exhibit are from University Museums' permanent collection. Assistant professor of music Christopher Hopkins was commissioned to create a new electronic musical composition, and Iowa poet and farmer Michael Carey is writing poetry for the exhibit. Regular hours at the Brunnier are: 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday; 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Thursday; and 1-4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Admission is free, but there is a suggested donation of $3 per person. |
