Announcements

International graduation reception is May 5

A graduation reception honoring all international students graduating at the end of spring or summer term will be held Friday, May 5 (2-4 p.m., 167 Scheman). Students will receive certificates during a program. Refreshments will be served. The university community is invited.

Workshop on learning-centered classrooms is May 9-12

The colleges of Agriculture, Engineering and Human Sciences are conducting a workshop, "Introduction to Learning-Centered College Classrooms," May 9-12. Space is limited; applications are accepted through April 22. WOI Radio's spring drive sets a record

WOI Radio staff and volunteers raised $348,000, a new record, during the station's spring fund drive March 31-April 7. Donors included 405 previous members who were rejoining and 388 first-time members.

Da'wah convention offers look at Muslim culture

Visitors will have an opportunity to learn about Muslim faith, culture and community during a three-day convention at the Memorial Union April 28-30. The Iowa Da'wah Convention will feature discussion of contemporary issues, interactive sessions and ethnic food. All events are open to the public. Big impact people

University Museums seeks suggestions for alumni, faculty, staff and students who have made a significant impact on the ISU community. Bring your ideas to a roundtable discussion from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Thursday, April 27, in the Brunnier Art Museum, Scheman. University Museums will compile a list of suggested names and select people for inclusion in an exhibit, What's Your Legacy? opening at the Brunnier next March. Pre-registration is required. Learn more about the Blue Gene computer

The library's April e2 seminar will feature Srinivas Aluru, professor of electrical and computer engineering, who will talk about Iowa State's new Blue Gene High Performance Computer and what high performance computers can mean for research across the academic disciplines. His presentation is April 20 (9-11 a.m., 31 Parks Library).

Staniforth lecture in weed science is April 25

Douglas Buhler, associate director of the Michigan Agricultural Experiment Station and associate dean for research for the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Michigan State University, will present the 2006 Staniforth Lecture at 4:10 p.m. Tuesday, April 25, in 2050 Agronomy. His talk is "The Evolution of Weed Science, Now What?"

Surplus bike sale is April 25

ISU Surplus will hold its annual bike auction Tuesday, April 25 (5 p.m., grassy area south of Printing Services). A bike viewing is from 3 to 5 p.m. The rain date is April 27 (same schedule).

Spring football game is April 15

The Cyclone spring intrasquad football game begins at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 15, at Jack Trice Stadium. Admission is free. The Gridiron Club will serve a BBQ lunch ($5) at 11:30 a.m.; Clone Zone for young children is from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the northeast parking lot.
