20 years oldThe Brombaugh organ in the music building's Martha-Ellen Tye Recital Hall was installed 20 years ago this spring. Its name comes not from the guy who paid for it, nor even the department chair at the time, but from the man who made it in Eugene, Ore., John Brombaugh. It is a three-manual organ, meaning there are three hand keyboards, in addition to a row of pedals, each of which plays a different set of pipes. The campus community has at least two no-cost options each month to hear the organ played. The music department's "Monday Organ Series" continues through April on the first and third Mondays of the month. Concerts begin at 5:30 p.m. Photo by Bob Elbert. |
