Feb. 24, 2006 HonorsFulbright Scholars2005-06 Fulbright Scholar grants have been awarded to music professor Jeffrey Prater and management professor James Werbel. Prater's grant funds his lectures on U.S. musical culture at a university in Kaliningrad, Russia. Werbel's grant funds his talks on organizational behavior at a university in Lisbon, Portugal. Physics fellowJianwei Qiu, professor of physics and astronomy, has been named a fellow of the American Physical Society. Qiu's research interests focus around quantum chromodynamics. Descartes Prize to SoukoulisCostas Soukoulis, Distinguished Professor of Liberal Arts and Sciences and Ames Laboratory senior physicist, has won the European Union's most prestigious science honor. He and his international collaborators will share a portion of the 1,000,000 Euro Descartes Prize. Barua selected for Fulbright projectArun Barua, collaborating professor in biochemistry, biophysics and molecular biology, has been selected for a Fulbright Senior Specialists project in India at Gauhati University. Barua will take part in a vitamin A deficiency eradication program while at Gauhati. FP&M receives performance awardISU's Facilities Planning and Management has received an Iowa Recognition for Performance Excellence Award (silver achievement level). The awards, selected by an executive council of IRPE, the governor's office and the Iowa Quality Center, recognize businesses for reviews of their leadership, strategic planning, customer focus, human resources focus, process management and business results. Smith honored for technical paperAgricultural & biosystems engineering associate professor Shana Smith received the 2005 Editor's Award from the American Society for Engineering Education for her technical paper published in the Engineering Design Graphics Journal. The paper is "Integrating Computer-generated Stereoscopic Models into an Introductory Design Course." CYtation winnersJanuary recipients of the P&S CYtation Award, for work above and beyond the required, are: Cynthia Jenks, scientist, Ames Laboratory; John Lathrum, industrial hygienist, environmental health and safety; Joseph Mesterhazy, systems support specialist, electrical and computer engineering; David Nelson, systems analyst, environmental health and safety; Jodi Reinhart, administrative specialist, mechanical engineering; Robert Steffes, program manager, Center for Transportation Research and Education; Keith Swanson, systems support specialist, foreign languages and literatures; and Beth Weiser, program assistant, agricultural and biosystems engineering. |
