Dec. 09, 2005 Graduation events to be held Dec. 16-17by Anne Krapfl Iowa State will award an estimated 1,755 degrees during winter commencement events Dec. 16-17. During an 8 p.m. ceremony Friday, Dec. 16, at Stephens Auditorium, an anticipated 277 master's and 85 Ph.D. students will be honored. Neil Nakadate, University professor of English, will address the graduates. Nakadate joined the ISU faculty in 1977, was named a full professor in 1985 and a University professor in 1991. His research interest is contemporary American fiction, especially that of novelist and former ISU faculty member Jane Smiley. During a 1:30 p.m. ceremony Saturday, Dec. 17, at Hilton, an estimated 1,393 students will receive bachelor's degrees. Lt. Gov. Sally Pederson will give the address. Pederson is a Vinton native and a 1972 Iowa State graduate in institutional management. She is a former executive at Meredith Corp., Des Moines, where she was the senior food editor for Better Homes and Gardens. She was elected Lt. Governor in 1998, and re-elected to a second four-year term in 2002. Tickets are not needed for either ceremony.
