Regents wrap-up
During its Sept. 14 meeting, the Board of Regents, State of Iowa:
- Approved a request to allow regent P&S staff, faculty and
non-organized merit staff to carry over up to 40 hours of unused family
care/emergency leave (a subset of sick leave). This provision is in the
2005-07 AFSCME collective bargaining agreement. Vice president for business
and finance Warren Madden said the change doesn't create a financial
liability.
- Approved Iowa State's academic calendars for 2007-2011. The calendars
follow ISU's calendar principles (for example, minimum 74 days of
instruction/semester, commencement ceremonies no later than Dec. 21 and May
11, minimum three-week break between fall and spring semesters).
- Approved Iowa State's request to discontinue a 5-year-old B.S. program
in applied physics. It has had small enrollment, with no students currently
enrolled.
- Approved a lease between ISU and the city of Ankeny for the university's
continued use of 599 acres at the dairy farm site (through Dec. 31, 2007)
until a new farm is completed for dairy operations.
- Approved the purchase ($6.25 million) of 885 acres of ag land south of
Ames by the Committee for Agricultural Development as the site for the new
dairy/animal science facility. The university will purchase from CAD the
phase I parcel (80 acres) when it receives the first payment from Ankeny for
the sale of the Ankeny dairy farm site.
