September 9, 2005 Council likes ID protection policyby Anne Krapfl The Professional and Scientific Council lent its support to the university's proposed Social Security Number Protection policy at its Sept. 1 meeting. The policy is intended to protect the privacy and confidentiality of ISU students' and employees' Social Security numbers by replacing the SSN as a primary identifier with a university identification number (the middle 9 digits on an ISUCard). All procedural changes needed to honor the policy would have to be in place by June 30, 2007, as proposed. The text of the proposed policy is online from the ISU Policy Library Web site (click on "draft policies" in the left column). In other council action, the recruitment and retention committee received 22 proposals requesting $66,000 in grants for student recruitment and retention efforts by the Aug. 29 deadline. The committee expects to announce grant recipients around Sept. 15. |
