September 9, 2005 HonorsLeader in teachingUniversity professor Carl Bern, agricultural and biosystems engineering, received the 2005 National Food and Energy Council Electric Technology Award from the American Society of Agricultural Engineers for "outstanding contributions in training thousands of students in electrical power system applications and electrical metering." Superior papersHongwei Xin, professor of agricultural and biosystems engineering, received two "Superior Paper" awards from the American Society of Agricultural Engineers for peer-reviewed journal articles published in the Transactions of the ASAE. Up to 2.5 percent of the papers published in the journal during 2004 were eligible for the award. Hurburgh on European food committeeCharles Hurburgh, professor of agricultural and biosystems engineering, is the only American citizen invited to serve on TRACE, a European Commission that addresses issues related to food products moving through the supply chain. Program awardThe George Washington Carver Teacher Education Program, a collaborative degree program of Iowa State, Simpson College and DMACC offered through the Des Moines Higher Education Collaborative, has received the 2005 Distinguished Credit Program Award from the Association for Continuing Higher Education. The program is a K-12 teacher preparatory program for adults who are members of minority or underrepresented groups. |
