Library notices switch to e-mail

New name: Economic Development Council

The Coordinating Council on Technology Transfer has a new name -- the Economic Development Council. Formed in 1993, the council coordinates ISU technology transfer and economic development activities at Iowa State. The council is chaired by the vice provost for research. For more info, see

University closed July 4

Iowa State offices will be closed and classes not held Monday, July 4, in observance of the national Independence Day holiday.

July 4 at the Farm House

Celebrate an old-fashioned Fourth of July at the Farm House Museum, central campus, from 1 to 4 p.m. Festivities include games, crafts, tours of the historic Farm House Museum, and music and dance performances by the Onion Creek Cloggers. Hotdogs, popcorn and lemonade will be sold. Park in any campus lot except where 24-hour reserve restrictions apply.

Holiday hours at gardens

Reiman Gardens, including the conservatory, gift shop and outdoor gardens, will be open 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Monday, July 4. Hazel's Kitchen will close at 4 p.m. and the butterfly wing at 4:30 p.m. Guests may bring picnic suppers. Regular admission will be charged (children under 17 are admitted free through Aug. 31).


  • Brenda Daly, university professor of English, to interim director of the Center for Excellence in the Arts and Humanities, effective Aug. 15. This fall, the Office of the Vice Provost for Research will initiate an internal search for a new director.
  • Michael Golemo, associate professor of music and director of bands, to chair of the music department, effective July 1.
