He'll talk about the scope, depth of coverage and sources in Google Scholar; and offer tips on using Google Scholar and other research tools. Forum for departments hosting summer youth eventsThe Office of Risk Management will host a safety/security forum for departments planning summer camps or enrichment programs involving students under 18 years. Topics include waivers and agreements, safety and medical concerns, claim reporting procedures, legal responsibilities, security awareness, transportation and the office's "best practices" for youth events. Pet care seminar April 26ISU community practice veterinarians will present a basic pet care seminar for pet owners from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 26, in 2226 Veterinary Medicine. The seminar is free and open to the public. Topics to be covered include dental care, ear and skin care, handling exercises, basic behavior and basic emergency care. Food safety vs. food defenseFood safety expert Frank Busta will speak on "Food Safety and Food Defense: Similarities and Differences" at 4:10 p.m. Wednesday, April 20, in 2050 Agronomy. Busta is director of the National Center for Food Protection and Defense and professor emeritus at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis. Panel with LAS master teachersThe LAS Master Teachers will lead an April 18 panel discussion on teaching activities that encourage connections to other disciplines or courses, civic engagements, research and real-world problems. The discussion is from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Memorial Union Campanile Room. This year's master teachers are Clifford Bergman, math; William Gallus, geological and atmospheric sciences; Michael Mendelson, English; Jill Pruetz, anthropology; and Mark Rectanus, foreign languages and literatures. Tulip time at Reiman GardensMore than 20,000 tulips are expected to bloom this weekend in the outdoor beds at Reiman Gardens. Daily hours at the gardens are 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Visitors 17 years old and younger are admitted free during April, in celebration of the Month of the Young Child. ResignationGreg Lee, associate director of administrative services in the residence department since March 2002, has been named associate director for housing for business and information technologies at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville. His last day at Iowa State is April 30. |
