February 25, 2005 Teaching tipRather than lecture straight through the class period, insert a change of pace. This could be a minute or two for questions, a feedback exercise, a reflective moment or a brief discussion, planned for every 12-15 minutes. Lecturing for long stretches will hinder most students' learning. Planning change-of-pace moments well can reinforce the lecture point and increase students' comprehension and retention of knowledge. |
