H1 application fee to rise nearly fourfold

Campus units that employ or hope to employ new, non-student, internationals in professional positions should note that the application fee to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (formerly known as INS) for H-1B "temporary worker" immigration status will increase from $185 to $685 March 8. The higher fee applies only to first-time H applications or transfers of H employment from another entity to ISU. It doesn't apply to renewals of H status for continuing employees at ISU.

To avoid the $500 fee increase, ISU employees who will change their status to H, or new employees who will transfer their H status to ISU, should begin the H application process by Feb 21. Contact Deb Vance, International Education Services, dvance@iastate.edu, for application materials and instructions.
