Sea kayaking in Alaska

The outdoor recreation program will offer a sea kayaking trip to Prince William Sound, Alaska, July 10-16. Cost for faculty and staff is $1,330 and includes airfare, shuttles, kayaks and equipment, food (except road meals), and camping and access fees. Register in 0260 State Gym. Forum features rec services

At the next P&S Council open forum, recreation services staff will discuss programs for faculty and staff. The forum begins at noon Thursday, Feb. 3, in the Memorial Union Gallery.

$1,000 accompanies regent award

For the first time since they were established in 1993, the Regents Award for Faculty Excellence and Regents Award for Staff Excellence will include a $1,000 one-time award.

The awards are presented at all Board of Regents, State of Iowa, institutions. Each institution will fund its awards.

The awards are presented annually at Iowa State to up to six faculty and four staff members for excellent service and contributions to the university.

Nominations are due in the provost's office by Feb. 28. Nomination forms and additional information about the criteria for the awards are available on the provost's office Web site (http://www.provost.iastate.edu).

Symposium looks at wilderness, creativity

ISU's Creative Writing Program will sponsor a free symposium on wildness, wilderness and creativity Feb. 20-22 at the Memorial Union. There is no registration. Tutor sought

The Office of Disability Resources seeks to hire a tutor immediately to assist a blind student enrolled in Physics 222 this spring. Estimated time commitment is six hours per week. Contact Jorja Kemp, 4-4646.

Van driving class

A free class on driving 15-passenger vans will be offered by Transportation Services from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 2, in room 8, Fire Service Institute, Haber Road. It is open to all faculty, staff and students. Call 4-1882 to register.

A new web site featuring health information for Iowa women and their families is a collaboration of ISU Extension and the Iowa Department of Public Health.
