October 22, 2004 Martin Hall dedication set for Nov. 5The residence department will dedicate its newest student residence, Archie and Nancy Martin Hall, during festivities Friday, Nov. 5. A program will begin at 2 p.m. in 2121 Martin Hall (main floor), followed by a reception. Student residents will offer tours of the building. From 1919 into the 1940s, the Martins housed black students from Iowa State in their Ames home at 218 Lincoln Way. Speakers at the program will include president Gregory Geoffroy, vice president for student affairs Tom Hill, a representative of the Martin Family Foundation, Ames, and several grandchildren of Archie and Nancy Martin. The foundation will give several Martin family mementos to the university during the program. Martin Hall is the second suite-style building in the residence department's Union Drive neighborhood, and features two-bedroom suites with double sinks and private baths. It opened in August. Martin Hall complements Eaton Hall, which opened in 2002. |
