2004 World Food Prize laureate Yuan Longping (right) visits with the President's Leadership Class at the Knoll Oct. 12 as part of his visit to campus. Class member Zheng Chenru (center) served as his translator. Yuan also toured labs of the Plant Sciences Institute and gave a public lecture on his rice research. Yuan is director-general of the China National Hybrid Rice Research and Development Center, Changsha, Hunan province. His research has helped transform China from food deficiency to food security within three decades. Yuan was in Iowa last week to receive the World Food Prize during an Oct. 14 ceremony in Des Moines. Photo by Bob Elbert.
