Revised strategic plan draft will be released in October

by Diana Pounds

With numerous comments and suggestions on the first draft of the 2005-2010 strategic plan in hand, the university's strategic planning committee has begun work on a revised draft.

The next draft, which will be released Oct. 11, will include revisions as well as some additions. Measures to assess success in achieving goals will be added to the plan. The plan also will list campus units or teams that will be responsible for achieving specific goals.

"These teams will be the key to a successful strategic plan," said Benjamin Allen, vice president for academic affairs, provost and leader of the strategic planning committee. "They will develop and carry out the action plans needed to reach the goals in the plan."

Allen thanked those who submitted comments on the first strategic plan. "The comments were thoughtful and they will receive careful consideration by the committee as it works on revisions to the strategic plan."

More than 200 faculty, staff, students, alumni and others offered written comments on the first draft of the strategic plan. Another 40 people attended an open forum to discuss the plan.

Allen said he encourages more input from the campus community when the second draft of the plan is released next month.
