August 27, 2004 Looking aheadSanjeev Agarwal, 2004-05 president of the Faculty Senate On the faculty: Came to Iowa State in 1989 as an assistant professor in the College of Business. Promoted to associate professor in 1995 and professor in 2003. Senate positions: First elected to senate in 1999; re-elected in 2003. Chaired the College of Business Caucus 2000 - 02 and the Academic Affairs Council from 2002 - 03. Served as president-elect 2003-04. In the classroom: Teaches international marketing and international business, primarily at the graduate level. Research and outreach: Conducted classes, study tours, research and consulting in several countries in Africa, Asia, Europe, and North and South America; prepared marketing guides for export of U.S. meat, dairy and oilseed processing equipment; and studied marketing challenges faced by Midwest agribusiness firms in India, China and Argentina. Also helps farmer groups understand the technical and marketing feasibility of producing value-added processed foods from soybeans and is involved in a multi-disciplinary project to help create sustainable rural livelihoods in the least-developed countries. Senate goals for the year: "Our goals for this year are to pass a strategic plan that strengthens the university, complete a review of the proposed college merger, and institute mechanisms to strengthen Faculty Senate's shared-governance role in academic policy issues pertaining to teaching, research and extension." |
