August 12, 2004 HonorsTwice honoredMark Gordon, distinguished professor of liberal arts and sciences and professor of chemistry, has been elected to the International Academy of Quantum Molecular Science. He also has received the Midwest Award from the St. Louis section of the American Chemical Society. The award recognizes outstanding achievements in chemistry made in the Midwest. Financial professionalsJoan Thompson, treasurer, has been selected by the Association for Financial Professionals as one of the "AFP 300" -- a list of some of the highest-ranking professionals in the fields of treasury and corporate finance. Only five on the list are from colleges or universities. Service awardChris Ahoy, associate vice president for facilities, has received the 2004 Meritorious Service Award from the Association of Higher Education Facilities Officers. The award recognizes members who have made significant, life-long contributions to higher education facilities management. New presidentGary Wells, Distinguished Professor of liberal arts and sciences and professor of psychology, has been elected president of the American Psychology-Law Society. Wells will serve as president-elect until he assumes his duties as president in July 2005. Portrait honorA portrait of Richard Willham, (emeritus) Charles F. Curtiss Distinguished Professor in Agriculture, will be added to a Louisville gallery containing 340 oil paintings of the world's most famous agricultural leaders. Willham is the 2004 recipient of the Saddle and Sirloin Portrait Award, given by the Saddle and Sirloin Club. Lifetime contributionsAnn Thompson, professor of curriculum and instruction, has received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Society of Information Technology and Teacher Education. The award recognizes contributions to research, teaching and outreach that have significantly impacted the field of technology and teacher education. |
