July 22, 2004 Glatz named interim Engineering dean at Iowa StateCharles Glatz, professor and chair of chemical engineering, has been appointed interim dean of the College of Engineering through Dec. 31. He replaces James Melsa, who retired June 30. Mark Kushner, Founder Professor of Engineering at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, will become permanent dean on Jan. 1, 2005. Glatz is nationally recognized for bioseparation research -- specifically, the extraction and purification of biopharmaceuticals from plants such as corn. Such technologies can help to create new drugs, health supplements and industrial enzymes. Glatz earned a bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering from the University of Notre Dame, South Bend, Ind., in 1971; and a doctoral degree in chemical engineering from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, in 1975. |
