Geoffroy installation set for Oct. 6
Iowa State's 14th president, Gregory Geoffroy, officially will be installed
in his new post during campus events Oct. 5-6.
Geoffroy, who this month is wrapping up four years as senior vice president
for academic affairs and provost at the University of Maryland, arrives at
Iowa State July 1.
The installation ceremony for Geoffroy begins at 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 6,
in Stephens Auditorium. Following welcomes from various Iowa State and state
of Iowa representatives, Geoffroy will be introduced to the Iowa State
community by Graham Spanier, president of The Pennsylvania State University
and personal friend to Geoffroy. Spanier received bachelor's (1969) and
master's (1971) degrees in sociology from Iowa State. Owen Newlin, president
of the Board of Regents, State of Iowa, will install Geoffroy as ISU
president.
Following the ceremony, a reception will be held from 11 a.m. to noon in
the Scheman Building. Both the ceremony and reception are public events. The
university community also is invited to meet Geoffroy during an informal ice
cream social on central campus from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5.
