Allen will lead External Affairs for a year

College of Business Dean Benjamin Allen will serve as interim vice
president for external affairs.
Allen's one-year appointment begins July 1. An interim dean for the College
of Business will be announced soon.
Allen succeeds Murray Blackwelder, who is leaving Iowa State to take a
similar position at Purdue University, West Lafayette, Ind.
Iowa State's incoming president Gregory Geoffroy plans to conduct a
national search for a permanent vice president for external affairs during
the 2001-02 academic year.
Allen has been dean of the College of Business since 1995. His academic
career includes two associations with Iowa State. From 1979 to 1990, he
served in a number of positions, including professor and chair of the
department of transportation and logistics. He was named a Distinguished
Professor of Business in 1988.
He left Iowa State in 1990 for a year for a position at the University of
Arkansas, Fayetteville. Allen returned to Iowa State in 1991.
