by Laura Boskelly, News Service intern
The first Veishea celebration of this century will emphasize some of the traditions of early Veisheas. Veishea 2000, "Today's Dreams, Tomorrow's Reality," is April 14-16.
"We're going back to the original Veishea," said Justin Chesnut, co-chair of the student planning committee. "Veishea 2000 is going to let students showcase their school and organizations."
Students from more than 70 departments and clubs will host open houses, an important part of Veishea's past.
Dozens of other clubs will sponsor displays and activities at the cultural festival, a day-long event Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on central campus. From 9 to 11 a.m. and again from 2 to 5 p.m. a cultural stage will feature club performances including dances, karate lessons and skits.
While activities have been going on all week, Veishea officially opens with a 12:15 p.m. ceremony Friday, April 14, south of the campanile.
