ISU poet to speak at humanities day

Poet Mary Swander, professor of English, will join the nation's poet laureate, Robert Pinsky, and other notable poets at Humanities Iowa Day 2000 on Friday, March 10, in the Quad Cities. The day-long series of events and poetry readings is designed to emphasize the importance and meaning of poetry. It is open to the public.

Swander will deliver the keynote address at the event and speak on the importance of poetry in everyday life. Her talk begins at 2 p.m. at the MARK, 1201 River Dr.

Gov. Tom Vilsack is scheduled to introduce the state's first poet laureate. The day is sponsored by Humanities Iowa, the state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
