Iowa/ISU teams clash this weekend

by Anne Krapfl
Get all your Cyclone gear cleaned and ready for extensive use; another Iowa State-Iowa weekend is coming to Ames. Five varsity Cyclone and Hawkeye teams will compete today (Dec. 10) and Saturday. Here's the lineup:

Friday, Dec. 10

Saturday, Dec. 11

Two years ago, in a similar weekend lineup, the schools split. Iowa won the wrestling, women's swimming and men's basketball contests; the Cyclone men swimmers and women's basketball team were victorious.

As part of the weekend festivities, Iowa State's athletics department has teamed with the ISU Greek community to sponsor a Cyclone youth sports festival from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Lied recreation center. An expanded version of the "Clone Zone" held before home football games the last two seasons, the family festival will include interactive sports games, autograph sessions with ISU student athletes, photos with Cy and other activities. Most of Iowa State's 20 intercollegiate teams will have representatives at the festival.

Admission is $2 for adults and $1 for students in eighth grade and younger. Proceeds will go to the Variety Club Children's Center of Ames, which, when it is completed, will provide family-focused services that enable children with chronic health problems and severe disabilities to live at home. A site for the facility has not yet been selected.
