World Food Prize ceremony is Oct. 14
The recipient of the 1999 World Food Prize will be honored at a 4 p.m. ceremony Thursday, Oct. 14, in Hoyt Sherman Place, Des Moines. The laureate will be announced two days earlier in Washington, D.C.
The College of Agriculture is the secretariat for the World Food Prize, which honors individuals who have made important contributions to improving the quality, quantity or availability of food throughout the world. The $250,000 prize is sponsored by John Ruan, Des Moines.
The Des Moines ceremony is open to the public and free. Vans have been reserved for faculty, staff and students who want a ride to the ceremony. For tickets or a ride, contact Brian Meyer, 4-0706, bmeyer@iastate.edu.
