Central campus symphony concert set for Aug. 24

by Anne Dolan
The third annual "Concert on the Green," a free event for the Iowa State community to help launch the new academic year, will feature the Des Moines Symphony. The concert begins at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 24, on central campus.

The theme for the concert is "Movies Meet the Classics," and selections will include music from films such as Amadeus, ET, Braveheart, Age of Innocence, Superman, Schindlers List, Strangers in Paradise, Apollo 13 and others. The symphony also will play the Iowa State fight song. The 90-minute concert will include an intermission after 45 minutes. During intermission, the 100th anniversary of ISUs campanile will be recognized with a carillon performance by university carilloneur Tin-Shi Tam.

Iowa State administrators, including President Martin Jischke, vice presidents and deans; and leaders of the employee leadership bodies will scoop free ice cream for concert-goers beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Those coming to campus are encouraged to bring their own blankets or lawn chairs. Those who are unable to be on campus are invited to tune into WOI-FM Radio (90.1), which will broadcast the concert live.
