Steinke named governmental relations director

Gary Steinke, associate director of governmental relations at Iowa State, has been appointed director of the university's governmental relations, effective Aug. 6.The director of governmental relations oversees university relations with national and state elected officials and their staffs, and with government agencies. The director also coordinates all university activities that involve congressional or federal relations and state legislative or agency relations.
"Gary Steinke has considerable experience in governmental relations and has represented Iowa State at the Iowa Legislature for several years. He very capably will direct our program of state and federal relations," President Martin Jischke said.
Steinke has been associate director of governmental relations at Iowa State since 1995. Previously, he served as legislative liaison for former Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad (1991-1995); director of the Iowa House Republican caucus staff (1986-1990), and as a research analyst for the Iowa House Republican caucus staff (1985-86). He earned a B.A. in political science from Loras College, Dubuque, and an M.A. from Drake University.
The former director of governmental relations, Carol Bradley, continues to serve as an assistant to the president.
