Nelson named director of student health center

James O. Nelson, administrator of the Buena Vista County Hospital in Storm Lake, has been named director of the Student Health Center. Nelson will step into the position on Sept. 15.As director of the student health center, Nelson will oversee the center's 65 employees, and health care services and health education programming provided to ISU students.
Nelson has been Buena Vista County Hospital administrator since 1983. Before that, he was administrator at the Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg from 1981 to 1983, and the Story City Memorial Hospital from 1974 to 1981.
Nelson received a B.S. in zoology from Iowa State in 1974 and an M.A. in hospital administration from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, in 1984. He also completed an independent study program in advanced studies in health services administration at the University of Minnesota in 1980.
Former Student Health Center director Dr. Robert Patterson retired in 1997. Dr. Mark Blaedel is serving as interim director.
