MBA program finds Des Moines base

by Steve Sullivan

Beginning this fall, the College of Business will offer an evening MBA (master of business administration) program at the Amerus conference center in downtown Des Moines. The lease agreement with Amerus awaits State Board of Regents approval.

"Our proximity to Des Moines enables us to offer an MBA program taught by top-notch ISU faculty," said Ben Allen, dean of the College of Business. "Our Saturday MBA is already a great success. We expect the same from the Des Moines program."

The Des Moines program will be structured so a group of students will take the same core courses at the same time. This approach allows students to benefit from the strengths each brings to the program and provides a support system, said Ron Ackerman, director of graduate admissions for the college.

He said the Des Moines evening MBA program can be completed in about 2 1/2 years: core courses during the first half and, in the second half, a series of electives offered in Des Moines, on campus or through the Saturday MBA program.

Additional electives are offered via the Iowa Communications Network. All the Des Moines courses will be taught face-to- face by ISU faculty.
